Enhanced Safety Measures for Morgan County Schools

In order to maintain a safe learning environment, all students and visitors are required to pass through a metal detector when entering the school building. Additionally, trained staff will screen all students' backpacks or bags upon entry. This proactive measure is intended to detect vapes, weapons, and other prohibited items, ensuring that our schools remain a safe and healthy environment for everyone. Morgan County Schools is excited to extend a warm welcome back to school to all our current students and families and we are eager to meet our new ones this year our school families will notice some enhanced safety upgrades the health and safety of our students families and staff are top priorities to further ensure a safe learning environment beginning August 12th all students and visitors will be required to pass the metal detectors upon entering school buildings in addition all students will have their personal backpack or bag screen by a trained staff upon entry this proactive measure is designed to detect Vapes weapons and launcher banned items in our schools a safe and healthy environment for everyone did it simply walk through the detectors and have their bags screened we plan on this process being quick and efficient with your help our district has worked closely with the Morgan County Sheriff's Department to understand appropriate screening procedures students and Families some tips to ensure a smooth process when moving through the screening area are to prepare ahead of time before arriving at the entry students should have their belongings organized this includes having bags ready for inspection minimize metal items students should avoid bringing unnecessary metal objects to school items like large jewelry belts with big buckles and metal accessories can set off the detectors empty Pockets students should empty their pockets of metal items such as Keys coins cell phones and place on the screening table be ready to remove bags to place on the inspection table avoid bringing prohibited items listen and follow any instructions given by our school staff or security this will reduce delays please be sure to communicate with staff if a student has any medical devices or special consideration that might set the detector off inform the school ahead of time mostly be calm and patient understand that these measures are for everyone's safety staying calm will minimize disruptions and maintain smooth flow into the school your support and cooperation are crucial as we undertake these new measures we appreciate your understanding as we work together to maintain a secure School environment please be flexible and understand as with any new initiatives such as this the flow of traffic may be delayed as we become more efficient in the screening process thank you for partnering with us to keep our schools safe together we can keep the focus of our school on learning teaching and supporting students
