MCCTC Culinary Team Wins Scholarships!

The Sweet Southern Cooks: Tyler McGunnigle, Senior Wartburg; Amber Dortch, Senior Sunbright; Trevin Hooks, Junior Wartburg; and Isabella Vallies, Junior Wartburg, an ambitious team of culinary students from Morgan County Career and Technical Center.
The Sweet Southern Cooks departed Wednesday, March 5 for Nashville to compete at Junior Chef. Each team that places first, second, or third will be awarded scholarships from Sullivan University or Nashville Community College. This collaboration is between the Culinary program and our Morgan County Schools Food and Nutrition Services, the National School Lunch Program, and the USDA.
This team aspires to demonstrate a blend of culinary excellence and a commitment to meeting nutrition standards as set forth by the National School Lunch Program and the United States Department of Agriculture. Their mission is to please the palates of all age groups and strive for scholarship recognition.
This culinary team will prepare a student-inspired quesadilla with a Southwest twist, a vibrant salsa, and whole-grain brown rice infused with Latin-American flavor.
The competition and awards ceremony were held on Friday, March 7. The Sweet Southern Cooks took home Third Place! Each student received a $5,000 per term scholarship to Sullivan University. Congratulations, students!
